Dominic Lavoie Revisits Recklessness Of Being A Teenager With “Sunkist Bliss 90s SuperHaze”

Dominic Lavoie’s new album Round Trip finds the Maine artist once again shapeshifting through genres and influences through (and sometimes within) each track. On the 11 tracks, Lavoie is joined by his backing band Full On Voltron, musical friends, and producer Steve Berlin (Saxophonist in Los Lobos and producer of bands like the Tragically Hip, John Doe, & Grupo Fantasma). From the raucous 1.21 Charlie Watts to the interstellar Martin The Martian it’s an album that feels like a collection of story vignettes for the listener.

One track, SunKist Bliss 90s SuperHaze, speaks to the recklessness of being a teenager “(It’s) just about watching TV and getting in trouble in a small town. Getting in trouble. Being influenced by MTV” says Lavoie. “It’s fun to look back at those times…thinking back to that time of low responsibility and low fear level of potentially almost dying multiple times a year kind of stuff, just doing stupid stuff that (I) luckily survived and I can look back at fondly.”

Round Trip is available via bandcamp and online and in-store at Bull Moose. It will hit streaming services later this year. Lavoie will perform July 20th at part of the Sunday Chill series at Vinegar Hill in Arundel and August 29th at Hey Sailor! in Searsport along with Sunset Guppy.
