Get To Know Ann Helene Hagen With New Single “Sleep Of Reason”

Oslo, Norway born singer/songwriter Ann Helene Hagen has released a new single; Sleep of Reason via Quantum Flux Records.

Hagen, who also sings in the duo Exiles Of Singularity says the new single “came from a mix of personal experiences and this old (Francisco) Goya piece, The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters. Its that eerie sketch of a guy passed out while these shadowy creatures start creeping in. That image always stuck with me how fear and messed-up thoughts tend to surface when you’re not paying attention.”

The song’s lyrics stem from the singer’s own past. “The song dives into that space between nightmares and reality, where old fears and memories hit you when you least expect it” Hagen continues. “The whole “second child” thing? That feeling of being overlooked, knowing your place, but still getting dragged down anyway, it’s real. And that bit about kids locking you in rooms? Yeah, that actually happened. There’s a lot of that childhood isolation and unease in there, but also this idea that when reason slips, all the crap you’ve buried starts to take over. And once that happens, it’s cyclic-fear feeds into itself. Musically, I wanted it to feel like that disorienting moment when you’re caught between dreaming and waking up. A little haunting, a little chaotic -just like the headspace the song comes from.”

Sleep Of Reason from Ann Helene Hagen is available now on all streaming platforms.
