alt-J Goes For The Gold With New Song “Hard Drive Gold”

alt-J has shared a third track from their upcoming The Dream (set for release February 11th). Hard Drive Gold was originally written at what the band thought at the time was the peak of cryptocurrency. “It’s the story of the ultimate childhood fantasy, the schoolboy who becomes a millionaire overnight, and the different interactions he has with people in his life from teachers to neighbours.” says vocalist Joe Newman.

The accompanying video for Hard Drive Gold (which was co-directed by Newman along with Darcy Wallace) shows residents of the UK facing some sort of pending doom with a radio announcer driving people to find shelter. A woman takes inspiration from a lost loved one and goes for one last pole vault before it’s too late.

The band will spend the spring playing dates in England, Scotland, and Ireland and they are also raising money for the charity Plan International by raffling off the same kind of guitar Newman used to compose most of The Dream.
