Dark Horse Records to release new Joe Strummer collection; Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years

Joe Strummer will forever be known as the front man to the legendary band The Clash but his second act with the Mescaleros will now be celebrated with the new collection Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years, out August 21st on Dark Horse Records.

There’s so much great music that Joe left us in his archive,” says Joe’s widow and executive producer of the collection, Lucinda Tait. “We started this work with ‘001’, so to focus on Joe’s work with The Mescaleros was the natural second step on ‘002’ because those songs he made with them just seemed to resonate so strongly and reinvigorated his connection with his audience at a level he hadn’t experienced since his days with The Clash.

Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years includes remastered editions Rock Art and the X-Ray Style, Global A Go-Go, and Streetcore, and 15 demos and unreleased tracks including Ocean Of Dreams, which featuresSteve Jones of the Sex Pistols on guitar.

The art he created with the Mescaleros helped fuel even more creativity in Strummer. “He was so excited to work with the Mescaleros and the reception he got from the press and fans was incredible,” continues Tait, “it gave him a whirlwind of energy and confidence and he was creatively fulfilled and happy.”
